Taking a two year hiatus after their 2009 self-titled debut, appearing only once last year with Italian DJ crew Crookes, the Swedes Miike Snow are back with a new track for their yet untitled sophomore album. Andrew Wyatt and company releases “Devil’s Work” a loyal Miike Snow- sounding track that is lifted by Karlsson and Winnberg signature synth work with some surprising glares of orchestral horns and catchy iridescent piano flowing throughout its 3:56 length. Sounding more layered and complex than the band has ever been, “Devil’s Work” also touches on deeper lyrical venture here, “Anyway there’s no reason to get hurt/ you don’t need to sell your shirt/ to do the devil’s work, you know you’ll always work,” affirms Wyatt in the chorus.
The band is quick to defend that “Devil’s Work” is not a single but rather “a slice of what’s to come,” according to the band. The promo song is also accompanied by a video directed by famed Swedish lensman Andreas Nilsson who also worked with Scandinavian exports The Knife. Fever Ray, Peter, Björn & John and José González. While the secrecy surrounding the new record is top notch, the band is happy to announce that the album is fully done with artworks and videos are being done. Would it mean that Miike Snow is pulling a video per song trick ala Beach House and Bon Iver, Bon Iver Deluxe Edition? No way to find out until official singles will be unleashed January next year.
